Routine haematology is often referred to as a CBC (Complete Blood Count) or FBC (Full Blood Count).
Diagnostically useful CBC's should include at a minimum:
*Red cell indices - RBC count, PCV/HCT, Hb, MCV, MCH and MCHC
* White blood cell count with manual differential of Neutrophils, Band Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Eosinophils, Basophils (both absolute and percentage (%)counts are useful in some circumstances)
*Reptilian and avian samples should also assess heterophils and azureophils
*Assessment of nucleated red cells
*Platelet count
*Morphology and size assessment of - RBC, WBC and platelets |
